Supporting Ireland’s Aviation & Maritime Legacy From the USA

Who We Are

Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum USA, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) U.S. public charity dedicated to preserving one of Ireland’s most remarkable heritage sites: the Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum in County Limerick.

Our mission is simple yet vital: to provide a direct conduit for U.S. taxpayers to support Irish aviation history while enjoying the tax benefits that come with charitable contributions and tax-deductible gifts.*

Why We Exist

The story of Foynes is a story of vision, adventure, and connection. From 1937 to 1945, the quiet port on the River Shannon became the gateway to Europe for pioneering aviators, glamorous passengers, and global leaders crossing the North Atlantic by air. Alongside this golden age of aviation, Foynes has a deep maritime heritage and even gave the world the recipe for the beloved Irish Coffee.

The museum in Foynes is operated by Foynes Aviation and Maritime Museum DAC, an Irish nonprofit charitable institution. Its work ensures that these stories, of courage, innovation, and hospitality, are kept alive for future generations.

What the Museum Preserves

Through its exhibitions and archives, the museum tells the stories of:

  • The pioneering days of aviation and passenger travel across the North Atlantic
  • The maritime history of the River Shannon and the port of Foynes
  • The local creation of Irish Coffee
  • The people, places, and innovations that shaped global transport and cultural exchange

How the Museum Works

The museum maintains and develops its collection by acquiring, holding in trust, interpreting, and preserving historically significant aeronautical and nautical objects.

These are shared through:

  • Imaginative, engaging exhibits that introduce visitors to remarkable stories
  • Educational programs that inspire lifelong learning
  • Community events and celebrations that connect people to Foynes’ heritage
  • Archival research services that document and promote rare historical materials

Why Your Support Matters

Every contribution from the U.S. helps fund restoration projects, develop new exhibits, and expand educational outreach. By choosing to donate to an Irish museum from the USA, you help ensure that the golden age of transatlantic travel and the maritime traditions of the Shannon are never forgotten.
